Aluminum-clad Wood Windows for Passive Buildings

Aluminum-clad Wood Windows for Passive Buildings

In building envelope structure, exterior window, as the connection center between indoor and outdoor, is also the weakest building envelope component, which is one of the main factors affecting indoor thermal environment and building energy saving. In terms of ordinary buildings, the thermal energy loss of exterior windows of buildings is 4 times that of walls, 5 times that of roofing and more than 20 times that of ground, accounting for about 40% of the total energy consumption of building envelope components. Therefore, enhancing the thermal insulation performance of exterior windows of buildings and reducing its energy consumption is an important link to improve the quality of indoor thermal environment and improve the level of building energy conservation.

The thermal insulation and air tightness of exterior windows will directly affect the sealing of passive buildings, which is also the key to consider the performance indicators of passive buildings.

As the first enterprise to develop and produce passive windows in China, over the years, Sayyas has been deeply researching and producing passive building windows, designing passive buildings from all aspects such as structure, material selection, production, assembly and installation, thus ensuring the application effect of passive building windows.

  Glass

Sayyas's passive aluminum-clad wood windows come with low-e coated glass. Low-e glass has the characteristics of low heat transfer coefficient and infrared reflection. Its main function is to reduce the indoor and outdoor far infrared radiation energy and solar radiation energy transfer, so as to maintain the indoor temperature.

To ensure that the insulating glass, tempered glass and laminated glass used in Sayyas's aluminum-clad wood windows meet its high quality standards and ensure the timeliness of supply and after-sales, Sayyas has built its own glass deep processing workshop. Sayyas has introduced international brand equipment, such as LISEC glass production line, Swiss Bystronic insulating glass production line and Finnish Tamglass tempering furnace, to create a "smart" manufacturing system for high-tech glass. This allows the glass equipped together with Sayyas's windows to meet its consistent high-quality requirements, and they can also be customized according to the climate of each region.

At the same time, argon station is built in the glass workshop, and air curtain filling is adopted to ensure that the argon filled in the insulating glass can reach more than 90% (argon can reduce the convection inside the glass, isolate ultraviolet light, and improve the performance of heat preservation and sound insulation).

  Profiles

The heat transfer coefficient K value of the profiles of passive building windows and window frames should be measured according to the current national standard "Classification and Detection Method of Thermal Insulation Performance of Door Windows of Buildings" GB/T 8484, and should meet the requirements of K ≤1.3W/(㎡·K). This not only ensures that the overall heat transfer coefficient of the exterior window can be controlled in a certain range, but also ensures that in the process of use, the temperature of the surface of the inner side is higher than that of the outdoor side  in winter.

Wood is known to have low heat conductivity. The lower the heat transfer coefficient of the window frame, the lower the heat transfer coefficient of the whole window, and the more heat preservation of the window. Moreover, the composite frame defined by the aluminum-clad wood window has stronger thermal insulation performance, which can minimize the heat transfer coefficient of the window frame. It is very suitable for the frame profile of the passive window, which is one of the reasons why Sayyas chose to focus on aluminum-clad wood windows.

In addition, wood is a renewable resource. As long as the planting is balanced, it can be recycled, which is more in line with the principle of high energy efficiency and consumption reduction of passive buildings. Moreover, the wood window has the characteristics of anti-aging frame and long service life, which can help reduce the maintenance cost of passive buildings and ensure the long-term use of passive buildings.

  Sealing

Passive buildings have high requirements for the sealing of the maintenance structure, and for windows, as the "communication" channel between indoor and outdoor, if they cannot achieve a good sealing effect, they will lose the indoor environment temperature that the passive house should have, and the air tightness test cannot reach the standard, thus making them failure to meet the technical standards for passive houses.

Sayyas strengthens the sealing of the whole window by analyzing from different aspects.

  1. The patented seamless welding of the outer aluminum frame improves the waterproof performance of the aluminum surface, without group angle and gap, and avoids the hidden danger of acid corrosion and paint removal by rain water.

  2. Independently developed seamless welding for the main sealing rubber strip helps to realize the "seamless connection" of the four corners of the rubber strip. Strengthen the sealing of the whole window and avoid the phenomenon of glue failure, water leakage, etc.

  3. Multi-channel sealing is adopted between sashes to cut off air convection and achieve heat preservation and wind prevention effects. And with a hidden rear ventilation and drainage system, it can effectively prevent rainwater from immersing.

……

  Performance

Exterior windows of passive buildings should have good performance, such as thermal insulation, air tightness, water tightness and wind load resistance.

Let's take the passive building window P120 independently developed and produced by Sayyas as an example. According to the current national standards, its thermal insulation is grade 10, air tightness grade 8, water tightness grade 6 and wind load resistance grade 9, all of which are highly consistent with the requirements for passive buildings.

  Installation

In terms of importance, manufacturing accounts for 30%, and installation accounts for 70%. Passive buildings are extremely demanding for the accuracy of the installation of exterior windows. Whether the installation of exterior windows meets the standards will directly affect the subsequent manufacturing of external insulation envelope and affect whether the insulation and sealing of the whole building can meet the requirements for passive buildings.

The installation of exterior windows in passive buildings is different from the traditional embedded installation, which adopts hanging installation. The hanging installation moves the window to the outer side of the building structure, and covers the door window frames with external wall insulation material. This can effectively improve the thermal insulation performance between the window and the structure with uniform isotherm distribution, and can effectively avoid dew formation and mildew and other problems in the position of the exterior window structure.

Since 2012, Sayyas took the lead in independently developing and producing passive windows in China. The participation of nearly 100 projects has made Sayyas accumulate rich experience in the installation of passive windows. On this basis, Sayyas does not stop moving forward, but continue to improve the installation details, and pursue for extreme precision, thus ensuring that Sayyas's passive windows are highly fit with the building wall.

Building windows undertake the two contradictory tasks of isolating and communicating indoor and outdoor environments. This not only requires it to have good insulation performance and sound insulation performance, at the same time it should also have functions such as lighting and ventilation. Therefore, in terms of technical treatment, the exterior windows of buildings are more difficult than other envelope parts, and the problems involved are more complex.

For passive buildings, exterior windows also play an important role, that is, making the building obtain solar heat energy through the transmission of sunlight, and the effective and reasonable use of solar heat energy is also a major topic for passive buildings. Therefore, from this point of view, the exterior windows of passive buildings must have excellent "isolation" performance as well as excellent "communication" effect.

Sayyas's passive series products continuously integrate the "communication" and "isolation" functions of exterior windows of buildings. The structure and design are continuously optimized to meet the needs of modern architecture while improving performance, combining practicality, consumption reduction and aesthetics.

Sayyas provides professional and systematic solutions for door windows of passive buildings.
