Does global warming have anything to do with carbon dioxide emissions?

    The topic of global warming has attracted much attention from all walks of life in recent years, and there are gradually differences on the specific causes of global warming. there are roughly the following views: 1 greenhouse gas emissions; 2 Earth cycle; 3 solar activity; 4 water vapor; the latter two viewpoints have already confirmed that their impact on climate warming is basically negligible, so the main problems focus on the first two points.

    Next, we can use these two points to analyze whether global warming has anything to do with carbon dioxide emissions.

The cycle of the earth. 

    First of all, let's take a look at the ambiguous theory of the earth's cycle of motion. It is generally believed that the period of climate warming that people are studying is relatively short, from the century-old industrial revolution in the last century to the present. But it is only aimed at the study of the climate for a hundred years. If we lengthen the time line, we will find that, in fact, in the longer history, the temperature of the earth has been fluctuating all the time. 

    And the temperature is generally higher than the present. Even in ancient times, 56 million years away from today, there was a global warming event on the earth, known as the Paleocene-Eocene extreme thermal event (PETM).

    As mentioned above, in the deduction of more than ten thousand years of history, the global climate curve is changeable, but at that time there was no human society, and there would be no industrial revolution. 

    But must greenhouse gases or carbon compounds be born out of human development? 

    Obviously not!

    Greenhouse gases. 

    Greenhouse gases refer to any gases that absorb and release infrared radiation and are present in the atmosphere. 

    The six greenhouse gases regulated by the Kyoto Protocol are: CO dioxide, CH methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs) and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6). 

    The role of greenhouse gases is to make the earth's surface warmer, similar to the greenhouse's role of intercepting solar radiation and heating the air in the greenhouse. 

    The effect of this greenhouse gas on making the earth warmer is called Greenhouse Effect.

    This is also the real reason why they are said to be the "culprits" of global warming, and according to an assessment released by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate change (IPCC) in 2007, carbon dioxide accounts for about 63% of the total warming effects of greenhouse gases, methane accounts for about 18%, nitrous oxide accounts for about 6%, and sulphur hexafluoride, hydrofluorocarbons and perfluorocarbons together account for about 13%. 

    Among them, carbon dioxide accounts for the largest proportion, causing it to become a "target" on the way of saving energy and reducing emissions to stop climate warming.

    So what does all this have to do with climate change in ancient times? 

    The study found that CO2 and other greenhouse gases play an important role in nature's oceans, lands, volcanoes, etc. (remember this). 

    Here's the point: 

    Taking the Paleocene-Eocene extreme Thermal event (PETM) mentioned above as an example, the team from the Kilhelmholtz Oceanographic Research Center in Germany measured the changes in ocean pH and its representative carbon content during PETM by detecting isotopic changes of boron in fossils of ancient marine life known as foraminifera.

    Scientists combined this change with global climate models, and the results show that volcanic activity during the formation of the North Atlantic was the main source of carbon emissions during the PETM, spewing a total of 10 trillion tons (10 ^ 13 tons) of carbon into the atmosphere, more than 30 times the total amount of fossil fuels burned by humans so far and equivalent to the total reserves of all conventional and unconventional fossil fuels at present. 

    In computer simulations, the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere increased from 800 parts per million to more than 2000 parts per million during the PETM period, when the peak value of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere after global warming since the industrial revolution was only 400 parts per million.

    Fortunately, the increase in carbon content at that time had a long time span, leaving more time for most species to adapt to the climate or to avoid extinction through migration. 

    But at present, the growth rate of carbon content caused by human activities is more than 20 times that of the PETM period, and the problem seems to be more serious than expected.

    Yes, sometimes the truth is so cruel that we can't help but think more. from a long time line, it may be normal that the earth is constantly undergoing different periods of evolution. but for human beings in one of the small links, there are only two ways: one is to save themselves, the other is to destroy, because the earth does not need us to save, we are just saving ourselves. 

    Fortunately, we have already realized this. 

    In order to mitigate or recover the impact of carbon emissions on the earth, countries around the world have introduced energy conservation and emission reduction measures. 

    On September 22nd, China also put forward the "3060 double carbon Plan", and in the following six months, it began to be implemented in various industries and fields, and has been recognized and supported by countries all over the world. 

    At present, a total of 38 economies in the world have formally put forward a timetable for achieving their carbon neutralization goals. 

    Most countries plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, including 27 countries and regions, including the European Union, the United States, France, the United Kingdom,     Portugal, Switzerland, Chile, Japan, South Korea and South Africa. 

    A few countries plan to achieve carbon neutrality earlier, including 2030 for Uruguay and Maldives, 2035 for Finland, 2040 for Iceland and Austria, 2045 for Sweden, and 2060 for Brazil and Ukraine, like China.

    The climate change caused by man-made causes in countries all over the world is basically composed of three parts: industry, construction and transportation. 

    In our country, the proportion of these three blocks is balanced, that is, each accounts for about 1/3. 

    Therefore, in recent years, China has always spared no effort to grasp the adjustment of industrial structure, the development of green transportation, the promotion of environmental protection energy-saving buildings, and the promotion of projects in the three sectors. 

    However, it should be noted that China is still in the process of accelerating urbanization, and experts predict that it may eventually reach 65% to 70%, so the new construction area is 1.5 billion to 2 billion square meters every year. 

    That is, the emission ratio of industry to transportation is decreasing, while the proportion of construction may reach about 50%. 

    Therefore, the promotion of green energy-saving buildings should be the most important link to achieve "2030 carbon peak, 2060 carbon neutralization" in the future!
