Southern Power Grid Corporation focuses on building a zero carbon competitiveness and green low-carbon development highland

This year and next year, Southern Power Grid Corporation will fully build 40 near zero carbon demonstration zones, covering five southern provinces and regions including Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, and Hainan. It will explore carbon reduction paths with Southern Power Grid's characteristics, focus on building zero carbon competitiveness and green low-carbon development highlands, promote the construction of ecological strong enterprises, and better serve the comprehensive green and low-carbon transformation of economic and social development.

According to the "Pilot Construction Plan for the Near Zero Carbon Demonstration Zone of China Southern Power Grid Corporation from 2023 to 2024", near zero carbon refers to the continuous reduction of the total carbon emissions in the region and gradually approaching zero. The near zero carbon demonstration zone, on the other hand, is a comprehensive pilot project that integrates the application of low-carbon technologies in various fields such as energy, construction, transportation, and carbon sequestration, as well as innovative practices such as management mechanisms.

We aim to create a group of near zero carbon demonstration zones with typical leading roles by selecting companies with high emission reduction potential or good low-carbon foundations, including production and office projects, business exhibition projects, and social service projects based on the construction of new power systems. We also encourage pilot projects with conditions to explore the construction of zero carbon demonstration zones, promote the development of 'near zero carbon' and 'zero carbon' in multiple fields and levels, and form a demonstration driving effect The relevant person in charge of the Strategic Planning Department of China Southern Power Grid Corporation said.

It is reported that China Southern Power Grid Corporation plans to complete the construction of the first batch of 16 near zero carbon demonstration zones this year, including the near zero carbon demonstration project for the 500 kV Kebei Substation in Guangzhou, Guangdong, the near zero carbon demonstration zone for the Lushan Comprehensive Energy Service Station in Liuzhou, Guangxi, the near zero carbon power supply station in Xiangyun Xiangcheng, Dali, Yunnan, the near zero carbon demonstration zone in Yangchang Township, Panzhou City, Liupanshui, Guizhou, and the zero carbon demonstration zone in Boao, Hainan.

In recent years, China Southern Power Grid Corporation has focused on accelerating the collaborative transformation of digital greening, continuously improving the level of clean energy consumption and energy comprehensive utilization efficiency, continuously improving the trading and incentive mechanisms related to green electricity and green certificates, and helping to achieve the "dual carbon" goal. At present, the proportion of non fossil energy electricity in the southern region exceeds 50%, higher than the national average, and the utilization rate of new energy power generation exceeds 99%. Since the launch of green power trading in 2021, the southern region has accumulated approximately 9.23 billion kilowatt hours of transactions in green power trading, and the cumulative electricity consumption in green certificate trading is about 210 million kilowatt hours. It is expected that by the end of this year, the cumulative trading scale of green electricity and green certificates in the southern region will exceed 10 billion kilowatt hours.

By 2025, China Southern Power Grid Corporation will make significant progress in supporting the low-carbon transformation of energy production and consumption in the five southern provinces and regions. The proportion of non fossil energy generation will reach 57%, and the proportion of electric energy in terminal energy consumption will reach over 35%. Efforts will be made to achieve a 13.5% decrease in energy consumption per unit of gross domestic product and an 18% decrease in carbon dioxide emissions per unit of gross domestic product in the five southern provinces and regions compared to 2020.
