R-CELLS solar House is a zero-carbon building project led by School of Architecture, Tianjin University, which carries out school-enterprise cooperation and integrates the technical strength of several enterprises.


"R" stands for the characteristics of sustainable architecture. "CELLS" draw on the characteristics of self-organization, self-adaptation, self-circulation and multiple replication of biological cells to create a modular building prototype that can intelligently respond to environmental changes, be self-sufficient in energy, and be replicable and extensible.


In this project, Senying energy-saving aluminum-clad wood Windows are used in the selection of the most energy-consuming plate in the building envelope, creating a "lifetime healthy ecological residence" with "positive energy, full cycle and zero emission".


It won the overall champion in the 3rd International Solar Decathlon in China this year, winning eight first place and one second place.

In terms of the concept and method of sustainable building design, R-CELLS house emphasizes the design principle of "passive priority and active optimization". By using solar energy as the main power source, supplemented by batteries, the excess energy can be transmitted to the grid on the basis of meeting the demand of daily life, so as to realize the "zero energy consumption" of the building. Achieve the win-win effect of building comfort and environmental protection, and help the sustainable development of buildings.


It adopts the mixed structure system of heavy wood and light wood, and uses environmental protection building materials. During the construction and use period, it achieves the goal of human settlement health. In addition, the house borrows from the characteristics of traditional Chinese architecture "anti-yu sun" and adopts the asymmetric V-shaped roof form to increase the heat and lighting in the south direction, maximizing the use of passive solar energy in winter. At the same time, the photovoltaic area of the roof is increased to provide enough space for active solar energy utilization. Using Senying energy-saving aluminum-clad wood window products and other energy-saving materials, the "R-CELLS" measured by Tianjin University Union with a 70-year "whole building process" cycle showed that the building could achieve carbon neutrality in the 9th year, and continuously contribute negative carbon after that, contributing a total of 2,092 tons of negative carbon in the whole life cycle.


Why is carbon emissions from the construction sector attracting the attention of the international community? This is closely related to the total impact of "whole construction process" carbon emissions on social carbon emissions.


At the end of 2021, the energy consumption Committee of the China Association of Building Energy Efficiency released the Research Report on China's Building Energy Consumption. According to the data, the total carbon emissions of the whole process of construction in China reached 4.997 billion tons in 2019, accounting for 50.6% of the total carbon emissions of the country that year.


So what is "whole construction" carbon emissions? The carbon emissions generated in the whole process of production and transportation of original building materials, construction site, operation and maintenance after completion, and abandonment and dismantlement many years later are referred to as "whole-process construction" carbon emissions.


It is not difficult to see that the whole life cycle of a building is very long, and it involves a lot of carbon emission links. In order to propose more integrated solutions, various energy-saving related buildings, such as solar houses, passive near zero energy buildings, active buildings and other concepts are gradually coming into view.

And no matter for which kind of building, the role of energy-saving doors and Windows can not be ignored.


According to the report of the new energy network, in all kinds of building energy consumption, the energy loss through glass doors and Windows can even account for 50% of the entire building energy consumption, the heat loss of single glass Windows in winter accounts for 30%-50% of the heating load, and the cooling caused by the solar radiation through the single glass Windows makes the indoor temperature rise in summer accounts for 20%-30% of the air conditioning load.
