Anchoring the "dual carbon" initiative to create a new picture of green development

With the intensification of global climate change, energy transformation and the development of renewable energy have attracted the attention of countries around the world. On November 30, at the main forum of Shantou International Wind Power Technology Innovation Conference, Huang Zhen, member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, CAE Member, president of the Institute of Smart Energy Innovation for National Power Investment of Shanghai Jiaotong University, president of the Institute of Carbon Neutral Development, and CAS Member Li Can, a researcher of Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, made keynote reports on "Five Major Trends of Energy Transformation under the Carbon Neutralization Target" and "Green Hydrogen Energy and Liquid Solar Methanol - Dual Carbon Strategic Path for Wind Power and Photovoltaic Development" respectively.

  In Huang Zhen's view, climate change has become a highly recognized issue in the global international community. To achieve our "dual carbon" goals, we are facing an unprecedented green transformation from fossil fuels to new energy. He believes that new energy must move from ordinary energy to mainstream energy, and we need to build a new energy system with new energy as the mainstay. Fossil energy will also move from the current main source of energy towards guaranteed energy.

"Re electrification will become an important path for carbon neutrality." Huang Zhen believes that we need to accelerate the supply of zero carbon electricity, accelerate the application of technologies such as electric furnace steel, electric boiler, electric cellar furnace, and electric heating, accelerate re electrification in industries such as industry, construction, and transportation, and achieve decarbonization and zero carbon in all industries. He also mentioned that renewable fuels will form an important combination of secondary energy decarbonization with zero carbon electricity, which is also a major trend in energy transformation. Based on zero carbon electricity, chemical energy storage is used to produce renewable fuels such as hydrogen, ammonia, and synthetic fuels. This not only provides green fuel, but also a new type of energy storage method, which plays an important role in decarbonization of industries that are difficult to electrify. For example, offshore wind power, in the future, we can turn it into fuel and transport it to the shore, which is a trend in energy transformation. "Our new energy development business based on technological innovation can convert more wind and light into energy that humans can use, making it very convenient for everyone to use electricity. This is a major trend in our future energy development."

Li Can proposed a new idea of using "liquid sunlight methanol" to convert and consume renewable energy such as wind power on a large scale. He introduced that the basic principle of "liquid sunlight" is to use renewable energy sources such as wind and solar energy to decompose and produce green hydrogen, which is then converted into methanol by adding carbon dioxide. This achieves the storage, transportation, and utilization of clean energy such as wind energy, thereby solving the problem of power generation and energy storage for offshore wind power in the near and even far sea. Li Can believes that Shantou can combine carbon reduction work with offshore wind energy storage, which can not only solve the problem of fluctuating and discontinuous green energy storage in offshore wind power, but also develop various industrial industries such as chemistry, energy, and materials on land, promoting high-quality development of the local economy.
